Acceptable subjects for comedy:
Asian
French
Canadian
Mexican
Caucasian
Southern
Handicapped
Mentally Disabled
Democrat
Republican
Christian
Jewish
Islam
Elderly
Homosexuality
Unacceptable:
Black
I'm not saying it's acceptable, any of it... but if you laughed at a joke about any of the above subjects, you can't really throw stones.

So because he makes one comment negative about another race, he is automatically flagged as a racist?
Previous things taking effect, because the baseball player threw the chair at the fan, he has a anger problem?
Because Kerry commented about the miilitary being dumb, he hates the military?
All I am saying is that because one person does one thing does not mean that is the way that they always are. People make impulse decisions, and those decisions always have a consequence. Because someone makes a one time comment about something that they dont always say/do that does not make them that way. Just because he made one racist comment, that does not make him a "racist". Maybe if he attended rallys supporting hate groups or something I could understand where people get off calling him racist, but he doesn't. He just has a poor choice of words. He is only Ignorant at most, but not a racist...

I think that there are plenty of "black" jokes that are perfectly fine. Calling a heckler a nigger repeatedly and telling him 50 years ago they would be killed isnt exactly a "joke"Sarkam wrote:Acceptable subjects for comedy:

It's too bad there isn't a word for white person that equals the N-word in its offensiveness. Cracker doesn't quite cut it. Then white people could be as offended as black people get when they hear the word. Does this mean black people can always be more offended than a white person. I say yes.

you guys are missing something pretty important to this whole thing:
the things he said weren;t sid to be funny. theres a difference between making a "black joke" and the things he said. he said them to be hurtful, not to be funny.
example of a black joke:
why dont black poeple like asprin?
becuase they're white, they work, and you have to pick through cotton to get to them.
ZOMG 86 is racist! no im not, thats a fucking joke. its meant to be funny, its not personal, it has nothing to do with turture or death or anyhing terrible. slavery is not a taboo subject in america, in fact its a big part of our history.
my point is not all "black jokes" are unacceptable, just the ones that are meant to hurt people. this goes with all races. i can make 100 jewish jokes about how they are tight with money and whatnot. those are funny, they arent meant to be hurtful its a stereo-type sure, but its a non-threatening one. im sure you can all think of examples of unacceptable jewish jokes too.
there are lines people. he crossed them.

well, everyone has their lines. i have jewish friends that love to make fun of the jewish money stereo-type, but becuase of the difference in opinionn in generally keep racial jokes to myself.
this goes to show you that one mans joke is another mans insult. further proof that the race card is best left un-played.
i meant no offense to anyone, i hope you know that.

I'd also like to point out the numerous jokes abuot Nope and praying. They are a direct play on his religion but they are meant in jest. If Nope wanted to take offense and get upset he could, but he doesn't. If we said these things in an effort to hurt him then I'm sure his opinion would change, and he would tell us to fuck off.

Well, I gotta say somethin..
Well after watching the video , you could see that the audience was with him and laughing even after he'd said "n1gger". It was much later that the crowd realized he was actually in a fit of rage and no longer had the intention of being funny that it really went down hill.
As they say. "What you say is more often less important than how you say it".
For those of you who don't know, my daughter Kelsie is mixed. She made the honor roll again last week. She's very pretty , fun cool person, laughs real loud, just delightful. I hug her half to death every chance I get. She's my sunshine.
If I were in earshot of a person who called her a " n1gger" in a hateful tone , I wouldn't stop beating their fucking head until nothing was left but a pile of bloody mud
If it were up to me, the word "n1gger "would be obliterated from every known language on the face of the Earth.
However, since this is impossible, the only thing left to do is diffuse it's potency.
Although it may be 100 years before " n1gger" is as silly as " honkey", using the word in comedy is going in the right direction. Dave Chappelle ftw, I stongly believe in that.
The thing that really struck me was watching the video of him on David Letterman. He was obviously distraught. I don't believe he was distraught over his career which may or may not henceforth exist.
You could tell that he has spent some time recently re-evaluating his whole thinking pattern about racism and thinking that he may have been fed some racist garbage in his childhood that found a way to spew forth from his subconscience when he was pushed into a sever situation.
Watch it again, you'll see. This isn't a man who just had a meeting with his publicist and attempted to recite a speech in an off-the-cuff manner to make it look like he really means it.
This guy is asking himself " Do I really think black people are stupid, hostile, scary, dirty?".. " Do I hesitate to drink from a public water fountain after I see a black person use it more than I would if a white woman drank from it?"
" Do I automaticly get a little frustrated at a McDonald's drive through when I hear 'welmm da Mcdonals take ya ordah'?"
Believe me. I know that kind of soul-searching and I'll bet everyone reading the words I'm typing out here could use a little.
Labeling a person a racist is worse than being called a n1gger any day and that fact right there is a great thing.
I think he should be forgiven as a person and blacklisted as a performer.
Like Steve said, He's a professional and I'll bump that up to VETERAN comedian for fuck's sake.
Sorry for the long post it hit a nerve. I was going to go on about how there will always be sterotypes and how Crawlpappy can't imagine me any other way than being a hillbilly with 3 teeth and a house propped up on brick'o blocks, but since I am in fact a hillbilly with 4 teeth and a house propped up on brick'o blocks, I have nothing left to do but cherish that 4th tooth and eat my moon pies while I still can.
PEACE

He can call anyone anything and get away with it. The DVD of Sienfeld which oddly enough is being released very soon will sell millions.
Michael Richards will not suffer professionaly for this, since he didn't really have a career to begin with. When i first watched the video i thought he was being pretty funny. The thing that blew it was saying he was sorry. It looked like an act until he said it wasn't.
