NHL Playoffs 2007
Kordo and i got this going in the officer forum so i figured we'd bring it here for any interested...
The Series...
FIRST ROUND
The West
Detroit vs Calgary
Anaheim vs Minnesota
Vancouver vs Dallas
Nashville vs San Jose
The East
Buffalo vs NY Islanders
New Jersey vs Tampa Bay
Atlanta vs NY Rangers
Ottawa vs Pittsburgh
My Picks
Detroit in 6
Anaheim in 7
Vancouver in 5
San Jose in 6
Buffalo in 5
New Jersey in 7
Atlanta in 6
Pittsburgh in 7
Anaheim vs Buffalo for the cup with Anaheim winning in 6
the west is insane this year. anyone could come out on top. Buffalo might have the inside track for the cup final if the west does what it looks like it will, and beat the shit out of eachother in long tough series'.
if id have to pick a dark horse, i think i might go with minnesota the way theyve been playing the llast 3 weeks of the season.

wouldnt be surprised.86er wrote:SJ for the cup!!
id say San Jose and Anaheim are in good shape in the west along with Buffalo and sadly Ottawa. i picked the penguins to beat the sens because i hate the sens and gary roberts is a senator killer. Either way the winner of that series should be playing the Sabres in the conference final.

The only team I can really watch while at school is Atlanta because they are playing in the only game that's on TV, usually. They were pretty hot this year but the last few weeks have been ugly. They should win the first round, but I bet they lose in the second.
For the cup, gonna guess Buffalo vs. Anaheim as well, with Buffalo winning in 7 (would be exciting).

New Jersey will do well just because Brodeur is godly. Ryan Miller for Buffalo is also amazing. I've heard Luongo called the best goalie in the league right now, but I heard he has never played a game in the playoffs before, which could turn out interesting/significant.

yeah luango has never played a playoff game but i personally dont buy into the whole "zero experience" thing myself. Goaltending is one of the most pressure filled things in all of sport and these guys have been dealing with it their entire lives. If Vancouver can get some scoring, they could do some serious damage.

i've seen a couple of there games, like them playing pengs and ottowa a couple times on VS. and i think ny is really good, granted there deuche bags, didnt they just get smythe also? and they have jagr, he's good
i think they have potential if jagr's on his game and smythes tippin shots in like that fag does
edit: bah smyth is on the islanders, close enough. so scratch that thought. but ill still stikck with ny, there good. but now cheechoo's out for a bit i think cause his dirty run in with a fag hick from nash last night.. so cheap :/

actually they're not sure if he will be back next game or not. He wanted to come back later on in the game but the medical/coaching staff wouldnt let him so thats a good sign i suposse. I think he was trying to pull a Bobby Baun. Back in the 1964 playoffs Bobby Baun was a defenceman for the toronto maple leafs. That game he Broke his ankle but then later returned to the game to score the overtime winner lol. the leafs then won the next game also and that gave them their 3rd straight cup. It was over the Red wings.Valermos wrote: but now cheechoo's out for a bit i think cause his dirty run in with a fag hick from nash last night.. so cheap :/

so ya, pavelski is a beast also, but hes no cheech... thats roughPavelski Likely Replacement For Cheechoo
April 12, 2007
There’s one scenario that will likely play out in Game Two of San Jose’s Western Conference Quarterfinal series with Nashville: Scott Hartnell playing and Jonathan Cheechoo not playing.
Sharks fans already have the cheap shot by Hartnell ingrained in their heads, but for those who missed it, Hartnell put a knee-on-knee hit on the Sharks leading goal scorer and, on the same play, hit Cheechoo in the face with his elbow, causing him to lose a tooth.
“He got a tooth knocked out, a cut over the eye and hit knee-to-knee,” said Coach Ron Wilson.
"I thought it was a little cheap," said Cheechoo. "The guy stuck his knee out. If he wouldn't have moved his leg, he would have missed me by five to six inches."
And did the missing front tooth come from the elbow or when Cheechoo's head hit the ice.
"He got me with the elbow," said Cheechoo. "If you're going to hit me late, at least hit me (clean)."
Nashville’s side of the story is that it may not even have been a penalty, which flies in the face of the referees game misconduct call.
“They would miss a 37-goal scorer if you took one out of their lineup,” said Wilson. “They would be belly-aching if (Peter) Forsberg or (Paul) Kariya was laid on the ice and getting dental work.”
The NHL has decided there will be no subsequent penalty for Hartnell.
“I think it’s up to the League,” said Mike Grier. “It was a blow to the head and we’re supposed to be trying to clean up blows to the head.”
After today’s practice, Wilson said Cheechoo’s likely replacement will be rookie forward Joe Pavelski.
“He’s been a very good player all year when he’s gotten the opportunity,” said Grier.
Pavelski missed 10 games from Feb. 1 until March 15 with a foot injury. That problem also forced him out of the lineup for a few games late in the season and for the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, as Pavelski knows, you can’t be injured in the postseason.
“It’s close,” said Pavelski about how close his foot is to being totally well. “There are so many players around the League with something. In the playoffs, you’re 100 percent.”
“He’s healthy and excited,” said Grier. “It’s not that big of a drop off. ‘Cheech’ is obviously on our top goal scoring line and he’s great in the room. He doesn’t complain about anything and just goes about doing his job.”
So, how will Wilson juggle the lines? Will Grier take Cheechoo’s spot on the line with Joe Thornton and Milan Michalek as he did last night and occasionally during the season? Or will Pavelski take Cheechoo’s place?
“I have to figure that out,” said Wilson. “I don’t think it will screw things up if lines are changed around.”
While he isn’t going in under ideal circumstances, Pavelski may have learned a bit by watching Game One from the press box.
“It was probably good he saw a game,” said Wilson. “It certainly isn’t college hockey. It’s intense and violent and much quicker than the regular season.”
Pavelski is excited to get a chance in Game Two.
“I got to watch last night and took a lot out of the game,” said Pavelski. “The regular season kind of prepared me with the close games. I’m excited to get out there.”
As for Cheechoo’s return?
“We’ll check and hope he will be able to come back these playoffs,” said Wilson.
"I think so," said Cheechoo of skating against Nashville. "We'll see what the MRI says."
It was rumored that Cheechoo wanted to return for the contest.
"You always want to play if you can," said Cheechoo. "But we didn't know what was wrong."
