Ran across this site that streams free music and found it to be really good http://www.pandora.com
Put in your favorite band and it creates a station for you, randomly plays other bands that are like your favorite band... sometimes you'll run across a band you like that you've never heard of before.
You have to register on there or else after a few songs it'll stop playing music and ask you to register anyways.

Pandora is very good. I've been using it for a few months now.
Look for Apocalyptica. Great stuff by them. It's hard to describe or put a label n them, but it's a strings band...only way more awesome.
Clint Mansell is awesome as well.
