MY life - update

Post by Valermos »

So today, actually 20 minutes ago, i finished an interview. An interview for a raise into management. For those of you that do not know, i work for Safeway. Yes the grocery stores. Here out in Northern California, Safeway is the dominate grocery chain, other parts of the U.S. i heard its the shits, but here it is THE SHIT. As far as grocery retail goes. I went to college for a year and a half, hated it, plus im not as fortunate as some kids where there rich and there parents spoil them and allow them to fuck up and all that good stuff. So basically whatever myself and my brother decide to do, its pretty much it our own hands which makes things pretty hard to accomplish around here.

So what are the benefits with going into management, well around a 5k-10k raise and some. And some regarding a future raise, right now im at the top of my payscale at 19 an hour. NINETEEN AN HOUR! WHAT, UR A MILLIONAIRE, but remember i pretty much live in one of the most expensive areas in the U.S. The Bay Area. We reap what we sow here, meaning we pay for fucking living here.

My raise would consist of being a 2nd asst manager of a store, then after a year i can take 6 weeks of classes and become a 1st asst manager, makig my raise 10k a year more, and be bonus elligable if my store i work at is successful and the bonus is about ANOTHER 10k. Pretty sweet, so basically im sticking this out as my career, i pretty much am OVER qualified for the position being that i know the in and outs of all departments in a store, i pretty much teach Store managers and asst's how to do a lot of shit. The District Manager is in love with me and told me if i went in i'd move up fast.

So the only real downfall with going into management is Salary income @ 11 scheduled hours a day with an hour lunch, so 50 hours a week, PLUS if they need help who do you think they call cause im salary. But im determined and very knowledgable of the stores and shit, so basically i see myself moving fast. With that said, i probably wont have as much if not any time to play but ill keep u guys posted on my hours, i might start in this position next week, if my store manager releases me.

But anyway, ill keep u guys posted on my current work shit. Hope nothing really changes drastically, but lets be real, it will.

Until then, ill be raiding.

Thats Great Val! Management does have its downfalls, you might know the nuts and bolts of running the store, but dealing with the employees and the dumb shit they will do will be the biggest challenge. You will do well I am confidant.

Best to you in your new challenge.

Nice, grats Val. Keep on moving up that ladder. My cousin she did the same thing with Frys here, now she's working with the VP in the corporate sector.

Grats man, that is good news for you. I'm really glad to hear that WoW didn't have a negative effect on your career (like it did for mine). Managers work really hard, but you can make some really good money doing that. I guess it just depends if you are satisfied with the way things are, or want more. Your basically going to work enough that it's barely a raise, it's more like overtime... but... you'll be able to work your way up the chain.

I know some managers, once you become GM of a store, you are in a good spot. You make a lot more than the other managers, and you dont' have to do as much work. Once you become a DM (disctrict manager) you travel a lot, go to meetings, but you dont' have to work much at all, and get paid like 6 figures +,

Good luck! wishing the best for you.

I think that means you are gay. I dunno.

Stupidity aside. Grats on the promotion! Bet you can't wait to get an even better position with the company.

Ya that kind of stuff is in my family. 2 Unlces started as grounds crew at like 15 or 16 years old with PG&E and now there both District Managers, One uncle started behind the counter at McDonalds and went into corporate, making a lot. So it shows if u are willing to stick it out and try to move up it will happen.
