Weekly quotes

Post by Kordolin »

Some of you more meticulous forum-browsers may have noticed I've been changing the quote in my signature on a semi-weekly basis for the last month or so. I've been doing this for my own personal enjoyment mostly, but decided to open it up a bit.

In addition to that, and with inspiration from another site, I have decided I'll post them here. Yes, in some ways this is shamelessly stolen from several other sites/forums/livejournals/blogs/etc.

Feel free to post your own quotes, they can be from whatever source - music, movies, speeches, books, TV shows, etc. - but no more than one quote per week please! And nothing too long, either.:D I actually break my own rule about one quote per week but since I started this I want to preserve my quote from the last few weeks! :P

I think this is a good way to collect and share memorable, meaningful, or famous quotes and have a little fun while doing so.

For the record, here's my quote from the last few weeks:

"In the end, my friend, we will all be together again."

--City on Down, O.A.R.

And now my new one for this week:

"It is a curious thing...but perhaps those who are best suited for power are those who have never sought it. Those who...have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their surprise that they bear it well."
--Dumbledore (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows)
Sit vis vobiscum.
May the dp/dt be with you.

Not that its a bad quote, I just find it funny that you have a quote from Harry Potter.

"The only reason we die is because we except death as an inevitability."
-Seth McFarlane

I have other quotes if you used this one, but I like this one.

Nope, never seen that quote before, it's a good one though :D

Meh, not sure why the Harry Potter quote is funny, it's a little known fact but I'm a huge fan, midnight book releases, subscriptions to HP news sites RSS feeds, etc. Anyone who says they're "kid's books" didn't read the whole series... then again, I did read the first one when I was like 12 :? and I've stuck with it since, like many of the other fans my age have. And I almost used one of the more cliché quotes from HP, but decided to go with one of the lesser known ones.

I'm not stalking you Krodo...no really.
I just happened to notice you were on the forums and when I refreshed the browser after typing my quote I saw you responded... wait, are you stalking me?

I have nothing against the stories.I guess its because of the stereotypes related to Harry Potter.

And since I'm replying again...

"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must NEVER get boring."
-Chuck Palahniuk

If you actually read the quote its supposed to be motivational, though I imagine it could be taken a little offensively. Oh well.

One out of four people in this country is mentally unbalanced. Think of your three closes friends; if they seem OK, then you’re the one.

These are the cries of the carrots. The cries of the carrots! You see Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day, and to them it is the Holocaust.

"Its not the victories of a man that builds character, but his losses in which he came back, head high, trying his hardest. That is what builds character."

I forget where I got that quote from.

Courtroom fun!

Was that the same nose you broke as a child?

Now, doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, in most cases he just passes quietly away and doesn't know anything about it until the next morning?

What happened then?
He told me, he says, "I have to kill you because you can identify me."
Did he kill you?

Was it you or your brother that was killed in the war?

The youngest son, the 20-year-old, how old is he?

Were you alone or by yourself?

What is the meaning of sperm being present?
It indicates intercourse.
Male sperm?
That is the only kind I know.

Can you describe the individual?
He was about medium height and had a beard.
Was this a male or female?

How long have you been a French Canadian?
Whoever says Paper beats Rok is an idiot. Next time I see someone say that I will throw a rok at them while they hold up a sheet of paper........

Start of Week #3 (4/21-4/27)

"Lying is done with words and also with silence."
--Adrienne Rich

Here's a link to her Wikipedia entry, for those of you who don't know who she is (probably everyone).

Might go with a book quote for next week... not sure yet, I have a few things in mind.

Start of Week #4 (4/28-5/4)

"It's 'winner take nothing' that is the great truth of our country or of any country. Life is to be lived, not controlled; and humanity is won by continuing to play in face of certain defeat."
-- Ralph Ellison, Invisible Man (Epilogue)

Next week: another wisdom quote, and it's a good one.

If you must mount the gallows, give a jest to the crowd, a coin to the hangman, and make the drop with a smile on your lips.
-Birgitte

You can never know everything, and part of what you know is always wrong. Perhaps even the most important part. A portion of wisdom lies in knowing that. A portion of courage lies in going on anyways.
