Would you quote this project?

Post by Rokrayne »

General notes from a project I have been asked to bid...........talk about your 'CYA' cover your ass, clause!

General Notes:
A. Do not scale drawings
B. Elevations and details on this set of drawings are not to be specifics for the jobsite, please quote only intended generalities based upon Architects understanding
C. Please price colors and products specified for all cabinetry, millwork, and tops, i.e.: Solid Surface Tops to be Corian Class 'B' or better
D. Please note that all colors and manufacturer's of all materials can change without notice, and your pricing of this project should reflect all possibilities
E. Architect not responsible for any details or specifications
F. Installation of manufactured items, materials, and equipment in strict accordance with the Architects intent

Of course I am not bidding this. I found out from the general contractor that this project has been designed by the owners friend who just graduated college 2 months ago.......I was absolutely dumb-founded after reading the specifications and had to share this level of ineptness.

I was going to say that...

I have run across quote requests that has a similar feel, wanting you to basically price everything including five different methods of shipping.

EVERY TIME it is a FRESH grad that has no idea what they are doing. I work in the concert/movie industry and this quote request shit is always followed by, oh ya and I need this at the end of the week, on a holiday, in Mexico...

ughhhhh. That's me in 18 months! That's some major /facepalm though.

How are you supposed to price cabinets and stuff if you don't even know the dimensions they would need to be?
Sit vis vobiscum.
May the dp/dt be with you.

They have at least quadrupled the cost of their project IF they can find anyone that will bid on it.

I had an old contracts and specs prof say years ago that standard AIA specs and contracts may not be the greatest in the world, BUT everyone legally knows what every if, and , or, etc... means and knows how to decipher it.
