Whoa, that's such a big change. Going from Nobuo Uematsu to that is just...bleh.
I'm totally stocked for FF XIII though. I'd still say FF VIII was my favorite.

I'm all about FF IX, then FF VII and then FF VIII, the rest were meh. FF X was fun for a little while, but was kinda short, I knocked it out pretty quickly for an RPG and the story was kinda gay.

Ugh, Final Fantasy: The Love Story (VIII, for those not in the know) was my least favorite of the PSX/PS2 generation games, mainly because of the story (and Squall was a bitch). I have to say I loved the Junction system and prefer it to the ones used in VII, IX, and X... but story is everything.

The difference between the Nintendo and PlayStation games is quite extreme. I don't like comparing them that way, it's like apples and oranges. The only things you can argue that transfer across those platforms/generations seamlessly are the story and the music. So we won't go there, though I will say I enjoyed VI quite a bit and still play it some times via the FF:Anthology they released for PlayStation.

IMO, the best RPGs that Square/Squaresoft/Square Enix, in all of its incarnations, has made and will ever make are Chronotrigger, Xenogears, and FFVII. In that order.

I dunno, I enjoyed FFVIII much more than FFVII. I enjoyed FFII and Chrono Trigger + Chrono Cross is a must. I'm a fucking fan of Squall though he would be more favored if he didn't act all emo but he has the best limit break out of any fucking FF character (then I'd say it's Selphie. Seriously, 1 shot Limit break? Hell yeah). Renzokuken + Lion Heart = awesome.

Atleast can we all agree that FFX-2 sucked. ALOT!?

Omega Weapon, fun times... Possibly the only "hardest fight ever" you can make the "easiest fight ever" with a few holy wars and refreshing Aura each time the invincibility falls.

I thought most of the battle stuff in IX was a step down from VIII in terms of looks and style... except the summons, which were even more badass in IX.

I never got close to finishing FFX-2. It was a combination of not enjoying it and *I think* EQOA Frontiers coming out around the same time. Then later I started playing FFXI and never felt like it was worth my time to go back to X-2. I actually still haven't finished FFXII yet either. That's more due to a lack of time and having no enthusiasm to finish the last few side quests though. Speaking of hard fights, I remember that the last encounter with Gilgamesh during his hunt sequence in XII gave me fits because I hadn't progressed in the story far enough and was a bit underleveled/undergeared when I tried it. Being a little crafty with your in-battle tactics went a long way in that game though, so I pulled it out, but I think it took me over 90 minutes to win. lol.

Going into some more obscure games that some of you might enjoy or have played, especially if you like more strategy-style RPGs, I suggest checking out the Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre games. Tactics Ogre is like Final Fantasy Tactics and the Ogre Battle games are more RTS-style. Both are set in the same universe, though. It's tough/expensive to pick up cartridges for the Ogre Battle games, so if you aren't adverse to illicit means of playing SNES/N64 games, I suggest checking them out: Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen for SNES and Ogre Battle 64 for the N64. My roommate offered me 40 bucks for the N64 game two years ago, which is a decent amount for a 64 game...however, it's too much of a classic to even consider such a thing, so I only loaned it to him. It shows up on Ebay and Amazon occasionally for about that much, but the SNES game is a bit harder to find and I've seen it go for around 80 bucks.

You can probably find an emulator for Tactics Orge on the DS. (Yes it was very fun and deep gameplay. I loved it so much I bought two cartridges just to play with my brother.)
