Just don't become an undead rogue. Everyone is an undead rogue.

Cool thing is, no matter what class you pick, you are not gimp, and you are always a valuable asset to a group! Even priests (like a whitemage) not only heal but they can do damage and limited crowd control. Mages (think black mage) are arguable the weakest class (the mages in our guild tell me this). If you want a cool complicated job try warlock..... and we need more of those anyhow... :p

Warrior: Tank and Damage Dealing Class. Warriors dual weild, use a 2 handed weapon, or use a weapon and sheild. Capable of both high damage and good tanking (but not at the same time)

Rogue: Gank artist and DPS machine. Can stealth up allowing them to get a first strike on their opponent. Use stuns and underhanded tactics, as well as a high crit rate to deal big damage in combat.

Hunter: Kinda like a combination of Beastmaster and Ranger. They have a pet and they use ranged attacks as well as some decent close combat attacks. Powerful soloing/pvp class and also good at dishing out DPS in raids.

Shaman: Jack of all trades, master of none. Combination of Red mage and Bard, shamans can do it all. Nuke, heal, melee, rez the dead, walk on water, and use totems. Totems are limited range party buffs that can add a variety of effect. Considered by some to be overpowered because they can "do anything".

Druid: Another hybrid class. Can shapeshift into different forms for a variety of effects. Bear form is tough and can tank. Cat form can stealth and do DPS. Travel form is fast for getting around. Druids are also very good healers and supposedly can nuke ok (in theory). A good druid is tough to kill and valuable to any team.

Warlock: A versitile mage/redmage hybrid. Has a demon pet that can add damage or tanking abilities. Warlocks have the most DOTs and "enfeebles" (we don't call them that in wow). They also have nukes and AOE. They have a reraise type ability and can create healthstones (like healing potions). At endgame they are quite powerful in pvp.

Mage: The "glass cannon" of wow. Big ranged damage, crowd control. Can conjure water, food, and mana rubys for consumtion. Can teleport to the major cities. Not so hot at tanking.

Priest: White mage with a twist. Some crowd control abilities, a good DOT, some decent damage spells to get the job done. Also a huge variety of healing spells, sheilds, and buffs. Priests are the best healers without limiting you to one lifestyle.

I'm not really an expert, I've got a 60 shaman, 29 priest, 19 rogue, 17 mage, and 16 hunter. I've also played a 31 rogue, a 60 warrior, and a 60 priest.
